Ethics of fundraising for schools
While many of the ethical issues and dilemmas faced by school fundraisers (in state, independent and private schools) are similar to those encountered by their colleagues at mainstream charities, there are nonetheless sufficient differences to warrant a separate professional ethics of fundraising for schools.

Rogare is aiming to develop and build the normative foundation for a new field of school fundraising ethics by devising new normative approaches, from which our working group will help to develop a suite of toolkits, guidance and decision-making frameworks.

These, along with a comprehensive white paper, will be made freely available to the fundraising profession by July 2025.

While this project is being carried out in the context of Australian and New Zealand schools, the principles and ideas involved, and final outputs, will almost certainly be applicable in many other – particularly English-speaking – countries.

This is the second major project that Rogare has conducted outside the predominant national fundraising hubs of USA and UK – after the work with AFP Canada on the Canadian Fundraising Narrative.

In September 2024, we presented initial ideas from this project at the Educate Plus International Conference in Perth, and to a gathering of school fundraisers in Auckland.

This project is being supported by Giving Architects (a Rogare Associate Member) and Precision Group.

The project group members are listed below. If any school fundraiser is interested in joining the project group and contributing to this project, they should email Rogare director Ian MacQuillin.
